Absetzen
— setting aside
Setting aside the opponent's cut or thrust with a single counter-thrust along the same line.
Absetzen is one of Liechtenauer's named techniques: from Pflug or Ochs you answer their attack not with a parry but with a thrust that meets and displaces theirs in one motion. The geometry is everything — your hilt rises slightly as your point sinks slightly, so theirs slides off your strong while yours arrives in their weak. Ringeck warns that timing here is more important than strength.
