Übergang zum Halbschwert

transition to half-sword

Talhoffer's three-plate transition. The simultaneous Oberhau forms a bind; the left hand takes the blade; the shortened sword finds the gap.

When two cuts meet at the same instant and neither has the line, Talhoffer's solution is to shorten the weapon. Grip the blade at the middle with the free hand and use the resulting half-sword for a precise thrust into the gap in their guard or armour.
